Freedom

Well another 4th of July, or "Freedom Day" as we like to call it here at the Mark family has come and gone.  In fact, 232 years have passed since our ancestors started this grand experiment in self government.  We have gained so much.  I recognize that the awesome freedom's that we have were only gained from the sacrifices of many.   All the way from the bridge at Concord to the Middle East, and every patriot in between.  But, have we each done our part?

I was pleased that the Supreme Court has concluded that the Second Amendment is a right granted to the individule.  However, I was greatly dissappointed that 4 members of that court openly disagreed with that decision.  Knowing that the makeup of that court can change at the discretion of the next president, while keeping in mind that one different vote could cause us to lose this right forever, I suggest that you choose wisely when you cast your vote.

I also want to let you know that something very cool is in the works.  Ted Nugent and I are working on a new project that will not only be entertaining to watch, but will put some bad boys in a "Stranglehold".  Keith

Conservation

The future of hunting depends on the efforts of ALL OF US. Politics will play no small role in this war. Make no mistake about it; we are engaged in a war with those who would love nothing more than to ban the ownership of all guns and eliminate all forms of hunting. Help in this fight by joining the National Rifle Association.

Hunters are the greatest of all conservationists. Do your part to protect and preserve our wild critters and the wild places where they live by joining one or more of the following:

General Hunting

Be proficient with your weapon of choice. It doesn’t matter whether it's a bow, rifle, or a muzzleloader, practice OFTEN! Take pride in your marksmanship. You will become a more confident hunter. A confident hunter is a better hunter. Improve your marksmanship. (it doesn’t matter how good we already are, we can always improve). It will make for a more successful hunt. Practice, practice, practice!

When bowhunting in remote places, always carry an extra bow string and portable bow press. Excellent and inexpensive portable bow presses can be purchased at Cabela's or through their catalog. The extra string should be set up exactly like the one on your hunting bow. In an emergency, this extra string may actually save your hunt, and keep you from wasting the hard-earned money you spent on the trip.

Equipment

Check your equipment in detail regularly. If it is a gun, check the action, and any mounting screws on your scope. Properly clean your gun after each use. With a bow, make sure all parts are tightened down. This would include any modules, cams, rests, and sights. Check your string and cables often. This will make for a quieter and more accurate bow.

Happy New Year

Happy Hunting New Year to all!  After a year of growing and learning pains the entire MacMillan River Adventures team is putting together the new 2008 shows that I promise you will be better than ever.

We have the best crew in the business.  From the camera people to the edit suite we now have on board the best of the best, and I am pleased to say, we are all great friends.  MRA is going to be exciting, informational, and most of all, FUN!  I hope you keep hunting with us.  Keith

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all!  This has been a wonderful year for the entire MacMillan River Adventures family.  We owe it all to you folks out there who are watching the show.  I am so pleased to tell you that in November we had one million people watch MacMillan River Adventures.

I thank each of you from the bottom of my heart.  We went through some growing and learning pains this past year, but learned from everything we did, both positive and negative.  I now have the best crew around me that you can imagine.  I should say, not only the best at what they do, but loyal.  There is no substitute for friends that are loyal.

Tim and Wil make magic in the edit suite.  Zach's music makes the show rock.  Tony in front of, and behind the camera, is awesome.  Terrance, his "he ha" call and all, is a fun member of the team.  I now have my oldest hunting buddy Brent, running a camera full time.  Lisa is a PR master.  My wife Jeanne and family provides all of the support that it takes to give one hundred percent to a project like this.

Then, when you add to the mix the special friends, like you, that share each adventure with us, that makes MacMillan River Adventures a dream come true.  Please continue to share your ideas and comments with us as it is our goal to make MacMillan River Adventures the best, and most watched, show on the Outdoor Channel.  Again, I wish you all a very Merry and Blessed Christmas!  Keith

Thanksgiving

I want to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving!  I hope that everyone is having a great hunting season and sharing it with their family and friends.  One of the things we try to do here at the Mark family this time of year is to get together with the special purpose of identifying some people, family or families that we know that may be in need of some special help this hoiday season.  It might be someone who has lost their job or a family that has lost a loved one.  I am sure that you all know folks like that in your world, too.

What we try to do, and I would suggest that you all try and do it too, is to adopt these less fortunate folks this season.  It can be very simple and it does not have to be costly.  Here are some really simple suggestions:  Have them to your home for a family meal, take baked goodies to someone, invite a youngster, or oldster, to share some time in the woods with you, take your family and visit an old folks home, donate gifts or money to your church or a charity of your choice, and attend church as a family and say thanks for all of the blessings that you have.

I know that as far as the Mark family is concerned, we could never say thank you enough for all of God's Blessings that we have received.  One of the biggest blessings to come our way this year is to be able to share these thoughts and all of the MacMillan River Adventures with all of you!

Thanks to all of you, too.  Godspeed!  Keith

Happy Fall

Happy Fall and happy hunting season to all.  Thanks to everyone for watching the show as the ratings are super and the Outdoor Channel has signed MacMillan River Adventures for the 2008 season.  We have been having some great success already this Fall and I still have more bullets and arrows so I am not done yet.

If you get a second, I would really appreciate it if you get on the Outdoor Channels web site and let them know what you think of the show.  We are just about to make some major changes to the web page so keep visiting it.  I wish you all a happy Fall and an awesome hunting season!  This is the greatest time of year so enjoy it.  Keith

Anticipation

Late Summer is always an odd time of the year for me.  The calander is getting close enough to Fall that I can almost smell it, although it was still 95 degrees here, yesterday.  This is the time of the year that I try and spend as much time as I can with my family, so I can store up the memories for the long period of time I spend away from them in the Fall and early Winter.  It is also the time of year to make sure that all of my deer stands are in safe working shape.

I also go through all of my equipment and clothes and determin what was misplaced (never truely lost as next Summers invatory will prove) make sure all is in good working order,  and determine what new products that I have seen that I want to add to my goodie bag.  I also spend this time scouting my deer woods and just last Monday spent the day, with my family and close friends, prepairing a food plot for early Fall planting.  All of these activities are in ANTICIPATION of hunting season.

This is an annual ritual that I have experenced for nearly the last forty years.  I have now realized that every year I live in anticipation of the next hunting season everyday between the close of the last season until the start of the next.  Don't you just love God's simple plan called the "circle of life"?  Or as my friend Ted Nugent states it: "tooth, fang and claw, baby"!

The greatest renewable resource out their, the best tasting for sure.  The fellowship that we experience with our family and friends when we are afield.  The enjoyment of the great outdoors, and the absolute thrill you get when you actually find your self face to face with the beast!  No wonder we are all anxiously ANTICIPATING the up comming hunting season.  Godspeed!  Keith
